Cienfuegos
- interesting places to visit.
Cienfuegos city in Cuba, is located by the
Jagua or Cienfuegos Bay on the Central Southern coast of the Island.
It was founded by the Frenchman Louis de Clouet and fifty other
immigrant colonists from Bordeaux and Louisiana in 1819.
On the large Central are the austere
Cathedral and the Tomas Terry Theater as well as some valuable
houses from the 19th century with galleries and colonnades.
Other Eclectic exponents like the Town Hall and the Palacio
Ferrer, are also an important part of this charming context.
On the Park is the recently opened Palatino Café where
you can enjoy a nice drink. Within the historic core the Hotel
"La Union" is a recently rehabilitated historic lodging.

with its handsome 19th
century and early 20th century buildings on both sides.
Punta Gorda, by the seashore facing the Bay is
a unique and picturesque neighborhood of wooden residences.

Very close is
the Palacio de Valle (Valle Palace), a former wealthy residence,
designed in Neo Moorish style, which now houses a restaurant.
Also very recently, the comfortable Jagua Hotel, a Modern classic
from the fifties has been fully refurbished.
Other attractions are the Colonial Fortress on the Bay, two
historic cemeteries and the Atkins Botanic Gardens founded by
Harvard University. |
